Scion “Gallery to Map” Mobile Experience

Overview

Scion partnered with Tapjoy to create a “gallery to map” style mobile ad, transforming their print campaign into an interactive experience. The concept combined bold print visuals — including signature skid-mark graphics — with tappable hotspots that revealed the latest Scion models and key product details.

Design Challenge

The challenge was to convert a static print concept into a lightweight, interactive mobile format. The experience needed to feel dynamic and youthful, stay true to Scion’s brand attitude, and work seamlessly across small mobile screens.

Approach & Visual System

I designed a mobile-optimized visual system that blended Scion’s bold aesthetic with clear interaction cues.

Blending your original concept:

  • The ad began with a print-inspired gallery, complete with skid-mark graphics and strong brand typography

  • Users could tap hotspot markers to reveal individual models, specs, or promotions

  • Bold, dynamic art direction: High-contrast tones, sharp angles, and energetic textures echoed Scion’s youthful style

  • Hotspot interaction states: Tap targets, glow cues, and highlight states guided exploration without adding UI clutter

  • Modular, reusable components: Model cards, info overlays, and CTA layers scaled easily across ad dimensions

  • Performance-aware structure: Visual and interaction elements were designed to run smoothly within mobile ad limitations

This system allowed the experience to feel like a natural extension of Scion’s print campaign while adding interactive depth.

Outcome

The “gallery to map” mobile ad delivered a high-energy, interactive experience that matched Scion’s brand personality and extended their print campaign into mobile engagement. The system balanced visual attitude with usability and mobile performance.
