Uji Time Ice-Cream Packaging
Role: Art Director
Client: Uji Time Dessert
Category: Packaging Design & Visual System
Overview
For Uji Time’s Hong Kong Milk Tea ice-cream, I developed packaging concepts that merged cultural flavor cues with a refined, modern shelf presence. The work blended playful brand identity with more structured packaging requirements.
Design Challenge
The goal was to create packaging that felt authentic, warm, and culturally expressive, yet still clean, premium, and production-ready. Designs needed to communicate flavor, nostalgia, and brand charm within strict print and structural constraints.
Approach & Visual System
I developed a modular packaging system supported by a distinct art-direction approach.
Art-direction components included:
-
Warm, nostalgic tone: Creamy neutrals, soft gradients, and HK-style café cues evoked comfort and milk-tea richness.
-
Cultural references: Stamp-like shapes, subtle textures, and vintage typography paid homage to Hong Kong’s café culture.
-
Soft, photo-friendly lighting: Visuals were composed to feel approachable and artisanal.
-
AI-assisted ideation: Midjourney was used to explore textures, composition, and cultural ambiance before refining into production artwork.
These decisions were then systemized so the design could adapt across multiple packaging faces and formats.
Outcome
The final packaging conveys both brand charm and premium clarity, while maintaining feasibility for real-world production. The work illustrates a mix of thoughtful art direction, cultural storytelling, and precise production execution.
